GOOD DIVE SPOTS IN SAN SALVADOR

San Salvador is one of the best wall-dive destinatins in the world. There are more than 40 dive sites within 30 minutes of shore and more near Rum Cay and Conception Island. The islands' waters are known for visibility to 200 feet; on special days, it can exceed a miraculous 250 feet"! 'there are more than 20 miloes of vertical walls which begin as little as 40 feet below the surface

Grouper Gulley

Large numbers of some major denizens of the deep are found here, as the name suggests.

The Devil's Claw

Seeming to have been created by the action of some giant underwater claw are the large deep gauges in this wall. They arranged side-by-side at 45 feet and continue to a plateau of 85 feet.

The Hump

Perfect for night dives and guaranteed sighting of eels, starfish, anemones, and an array of shrimp is this small mound rising from the sandy bottom.

Basket Case

Beginning at about 30 feet, along a vertical wall cut at one point by a deep grotto, you will find basket sponges.

The Frescaté

Perfect for novice divers, this wreck at just 20 feet gives you a chance to see a 261-foot freighter which ran aground and went down in 1902.

Rum Cay Wall

the wall drops from 40 feet to eternity. Nearby are the partial remains of the 'Ocean Conqueror', a 19th-century British steam-powered battleship.

Southampton Reef

This massive reef begins 9 miles north of Conception Island, with fabulous elkhorn and staghorn coral formations.

Telephone Pole

This party-line dive begins at 45 feet and angles downward at 45 degrees. You emerge at 100 feet on a wall crowded with large purple sponges and plate coral. Large pelagics abound.

Flower Gardens

These scattered coral heads feature caves for exploring

Natural Bridges

This unusual reef formation features natural arches.

The Rookery

Queen and king helmet conch abound.

Sandy Point

this site, south of Cockburn Town, is one of the best.

Split Reef

Two reefs in one; the first has huge brain corals, the second a long ridge.

Staghorn Reef

You'll find star and staghorn corals aplenty, as well as heaps of other marine life.
